Almond Butyl - Natural Idol
Almond Butyl - Natural Idol
Effortlessly playful IDM by French producer Almond Butyl : recalling late 1990’s Warp or Rephlex quirkiest contributors like Luke Vibert or Mike Paradinas.
It was quite unexpected to hear such a proper straightforward electronic LP coming out on a French label, but very refreshing. Taking cue from some of the most lyrical releases of the British IDM corpus, Almond Butyl infuses the gentleness of colourful video games soundtracks like those of Bomberman or Katamari - the kind of games where you have to defeat caterpillars and ladybugs in pixel gardens. But what makes this record so intriguing and radiant is its pop factor, quite similar to the electronic pop miniatures crafted by Rei Harakami or Nobukazu Takemura. There are a few standouts, but the whole thing is just perfect for a stroll in the park.
