Jazz-rock - Experimental - Avant-Pop
Sassy goddess Annette Peacock's surprise hit, X-Dreams, stands at the crossroads of avant-garde and mainstream pop, a few years before Laurie Anderson's Big Science, and in a very different way. Suavely blending the AOR sounds that made Fleetwood Mac sold millions of copy of Rumours and her very idiosyncratic take on vocal jazz, Annette Peacock hits a sweet spot with her 1978 solo LP, creating this maelström of ironic mutant jazz-pop.
Way ahead of its time, somewhere between jazz-rock and avant-garde pop, Annette Peacock's sensual spoken-singing is mesmerizing, no matter what the genre of the song: soft rock, jazz, psychedelic rock. No matter how much I love Joni Mitchell, I must say that I'm more easily bewitched by the glacial coolness and stoic sensuality of Anette Peacock. Absolute queen, and music genius. Jazzy numbers "This Feel Within" and "Too Much In The Skies" held a special place in my heart.
