Co La - Hegemony of Delete
Co La - Hegemony of Delete
Primary Information - LP
US, 2014
Electronic / Experimental / Ambient
Genuinely impossible to label gently experimental oddity with a post-internet vibe from Baltimore artist Co La. Brilliantly produced computer music reminding of Orange Milk or PC Music with a dubstep and exotica twist (??!!)
Mind-melting production from a musician who never achieved great recognition despite a string of solid releases on revered labels like Orange Milk or Software. Like many of his computer music peers, Co La fell into a relative oblivion as we, people of the 2020's, have forgotten how a bunch of musicians used to release the most cutting-edge electronic music 10 years ago, stuff that genuinely felt like music from the future, and not the usual retro-futurist stuff we're so used to. People with strong links with the aforementioned labels and a common taste for complex production, weird rhythm pattern and a love for post-modernism.
This Hegemony of Delete LP is a strong example of such a music ethos. No one might care much about it these days, but my bet is it's gonna be some of the most interesting music from the 2010's to dig into whenever diggers will think it's time to do so. Always surprising, with a bunch of great stand-out tracks (like the kind of fake exotica tune "Chez Panisse" !!!): great weirdo music. Released on the nice NYC arty label Primary Information. (VG+ / VG+)
