Spectral piano pieces by Evan Lurie - cofounder of The Lounge Lizards with his brother John Lurie - perfectly at home on Belgian label Les Disques du Crépuscule. Ranging from mid-century tangos to Monkian ballads via Lawalrée-like damp modern classical.
Not gonna lie, this one may need a couple of listens to get fully appreciated. It’s not of the "ambient banger" kind or god knows what phrasing stunt a fellow record seller came up with recently; it rather belongs to that family of discreet records, cut in the same fabric as Dominique Lawalrée’s devastating Vis A Vis or Clandestin LP. Evan Lurie freely channels a wide variety of influences, reminding one of the kind of cultural melting-pot New York was throughout the 20th Century. "Inevitable (Tango)", "Suite From Punch" and "P (For Harvey)" are particularly beautiful. Comes with artworks by NYC legends David Wojnarowicz and Suzan Pitt. Big Tip (VG+/VG+)
