Rounding off a trilogy initiated in 2019, this final volume of Geins’t Naïn’s archives - as seen, compiled & triturated by Vincent Hachet & Thierry Mérigout, the original duo - showcases yet another facet of the composite industrial mashup the band discharged into the late 1980’s Dadaist French underground between 1986 & 1993. Geins't Naït’s final edit for Editions Gravats agglomerates bits & pieces picked up from the soil of a muddy barnyard.

The words of the opening tune, “MICHEL”, sets a landscape similar to that of John Berger’s Pig Earth, but Archives 3/3 substitutes the metaphysical fantasy of Berger’s novel for the brutal feverish nightmare of Orwell’s Animal Farm. This time though, Snowball & Napoleon too get squashed by the omnipotent agricultural machine. We’re trapped in the belly of this horrible machine, and the machine is bleeding to death.

And that’s precisely the blood dripping from its open-wounds that forms the clots collected by Geins’t Naïn, transfigured into nagging industrial waltzes. “ABSTRAC 2” gets us to hear the squeakings of slaughtered pigs; on “RAPPEL” the tamed animals have turned into hollow humans as tape recorders furiously rewind voices, before further evolving into feral TV anchors and police officers on “GOLF”. Finally, on “BASSE COUR”, they have morphed back into the barn animals they never ceased to be, joining a cacophonical choir of panicked hens and menacing crickets. Geins’t Naït’s cosmology offer no elevations or downfalls but a devasted saṃsāra instead, a never ending cycle of grinning agony. (M/M)
