Janet Marlow - Marlow On Ten
Janet Marlow - Marlow On Ten
Not On Label - LP
US, 1982
Guitar / Instrumental / Classical
Self-released virtuoso ten-string guitar recordings, that include Beethoven and Bach arrangements and two original compositions: a piece for koto and guitar and a beautiful cinematic folk tune, Time Alone.
First thing to say about this record is that Janet Marlow is quite a virtuoso of a guitar player. Because, that's what this Marlow On Ten recording is in the first place: a classical guitar album that features inspired arrangements of pieces by Bach and Beethoven. But that's not all it is. Marlowe's 2 compositions are departing from the classical guitar repertoire in quite surprising ways: For Sound Reasons is a Japan-inspired duet for Koto and guitar, both played by Janet Marlowe, while Time Alone is a guitar solo that sounds like some forgotten film's theme. It might be a novelty record, but still, I'm glad someone took the time to write some lines about it, even if that someone is me. (VG+/VG+)
