Jonquera - La Croix de Cros

 

One may say that La Croix de Cros, is an exercice de style, but would then have to admit that it is a very brilliant one. Instrumentals & miniatures crafted by studio maestro Guillaume Lespinasse aka Jonquera (1/2 Pilotwings, 1/3 JZBL) in his home, somewhere deep in the South East French countryside. A part of France, Jonquera always liked to refer to in his music, recalling the region's history in the most kaleidoscopic way, haphazardly hinting at its folk traditions, its industrial past and its rural nature.

 

The result reminds of some of the most inspired moments of all-eras French psychedelia, from the Road to Salina's soundtrack by Christophe to Vox Populi, sharing with them a very cinematographic approach to composition and album layout. La Croix des Cros works as a collection of sketches from an ailing village, a tale of men gone mad and obscure schemes.
