Matt "MV" Valentine - What I Became

Beautiful dozing psychedelic cuts by indie warrior Matt Valentine. Typically the kind of album, with its very bland indie artwork, that has been sleeping in record shops' crates for over a decade, until a curious soul (myself) deigned to give it a listen. Great album!

The late 2000's/early 2010's are the absolute blindspot for diggers. It seems that not a single record from 2011 has dodged the malediction that turned every LP released this year into a source of disdain. 

This Matt Valentine's LP is a textbook case: the most random artwork possible - the musician posing in front of his car, drinking a beer in pure brooklyn hypster-dude fashion -  for a record that contains frail and hauntingly beautiful ballads. "Ave B", "Sweet Little Indian Girl", "Ease My Eyes", "Stay" or "P.K. Dick" are much more emotionally exhilarating songs than 90% of the stuff released by Dean Blunt-wannabes these days.
