Momus - Voyager

My favorite Momus album! Successful 1992 take on then burgeoning downtempo and house music by the Scottish indie songwriter. Navigating in the seas of Pet Shop Boys' synthpop and Dee-lite's house-pop, Momus offers a third stream for pop.

I came to like Momus more and more in recent years, and that's merely thanks to this one record, his 1992 solo album Voyager. Momus embraces a much warmer sound that evokes the sound of the light electronic pop that would grace the airwaves at the very turn of the century. Listening to a song like "Trans Siberian Express", it's very hard to believe that it came out 10 YEARS BEFORE Moby's 18.

It seems Voyager never got the recognition it deserved. Worst, I believe Momus fans consider this entry in his discography a minor one. As you would have guessed, that's absolutely not my opinion. I would even argue that this is one of the best LP's on Creation Records, standing not far from Loveless. Featuring the all-time favourite "Afterglow".  (VG+/VG+)
