ECM New Series  - LP
Germany, 1988
Avant Garde / Ambient / Experimental

Quiet, very early morning experimentations from the duo formed by Tamia & Swiss percussionist Pierre Favre . My favourite opus from their decade-long collaboration. Released on ECM New Series, it's an incredibly good sounding record for a revelatory acoustical experience.

Tamia & Pierre Favre's 1983 Blues For Pedro Arcanjo is a record I used to find quite often at car boot sales in Paris, 10 years ago. It always thrilled me to find such a weird and delicate piece of music, sitting on the pavement next to battered Claude François and Abba records, and that you could then buy for 1€. That was a glitch in the matrix, a secret rabbit hole.

This ECM New Series LP is much less common in France - where you actually don't see that many ECM records, appart from the Keith Jarret's releases - but it's a little less rough, has a little less of that French-DIY darkness, and offer a lush, cinematic sound, boosted by the Manfred Eicher's treatment. It's not a watered-down version of their work though ; what the duo offers is still an obscure journey, a walk in some nocturnal environment, some secular woods. The Munich label enabled them to create an even more astonishingly deep soundscape than what they could technically do on their earlier recordings. Prepare for a proper deep listening session.
