The Smiths - Hatful Of Hollow
The Smiths - Hatful Of Hollow
The LP responsible for my reconciliation with The Smiths! It grew on me over the months and eventually became the record I'd listen to the most in recent months... Impeccable heart-breaking indie rock ballads.
I used to hate The Smiths until I listened to this record. It was a long story of hatred, that started in high school when a friend suggested I listen to The Queen Is Dead - it was ridiculously backward-sounding for ears so found of say, Kraftwerk. I must add that Morrissey's public persona and racist comments about Britain identity in the late 00's didn't help...
"How Soon Is Now?" changed things forever. I still don't like The Queen Is Dead, but I'm really found of their early works. I guess I changed, and so did my taste, thanks god. I seriously got into indie rock in the past 5 years or so, and the songs on Hatful Of Hollow are some of the most sincere, heart-rending pieces of indie rock I got to hear. "William, It Was Really Nothing", "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now", "You've Got Everything Now", "Back To The Old House"... they're all so fucking great. So here's an OG copy of this legendary compilation of singles, B-sides and John Peel sessions by The Smiths. Comes with my recent seal of approval. (VG+/VG+).
