Indie / Shoegaze / Rock
1990 Creation compilation featuring some seminal alternative / shoegaze tunes by My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Primal Scream & more, at the junction of the 1980's and the 1990's.
I know decades as musical genres is just an idea, and a deceitful one but still, it's intellectually convenient, and when it comes to understand the shift in sound and ethics between 1980's pop music and the following decade, this Creation Records compilation from 1990 comes in handy.
Appart from patented classics like Ride's Chelsea Girl or My Bloody Valentine's No More Sorry, the comp feature lesser known (I didn't know them) songs from the Creation catalogue that definitely has that Creation indie sound we're looking for, like Freak Outburst's Something Pretty Beautiful or The Times' Snow and, last but not least, Second Summer of Love 9 minute-long epic BANGER Palatial II by Love Corporation (not on YouTube, so I put a slightly different mix below)! A big snapshot from a time that seems more optimistic than today, even though it was bogged down in fierce Thatcherism. See parallels if you want. (VG+ / VG+)
