Cherry Red - Compilation
UK, 1982
Indie / Cherry Red / Post-Punk
Some of the BEST and most iconic songs ever released on Cherry Red, compiled on a record made to promote the label overseas : Fantastic Something's 'If She Doesn't Smile', Jane's 'It's A Fine Day', Marine Girls' 'On My Mind' (tunes that are not on the cult Pillows & Prayers compilation). Essential.
Behind the wide-open eyes of a gothic horror goddess lay some of the very best UK indie pop ever recorded, sitting on a cheap compilation. And it's also the best versions you can hear of HUGE favourites like If She Doesn't Smile or On My Mind who were previously released on not-so-well sounding 7". Trust me, I own these 7", and couldn't help to play them in audiophile places, always to my slight disappointment. Now I only have to carry this comp with me. Problem sorted.
It even features Jane & Barton's seminal and heartbreaking 'It's A Fine Day', the original song that would inspire Opus III and Skrillex... Best comp I can think of? (VG+/VG+)
