An analog bubble bath of warm ambient sketches and downtempo mazes by new and now landmark names of this-part-of-the-world electronic producers. An accurate snapshot of the music a certain scene started to produce during the pandemic: new exotica sounds to take a dip in a deep blue computer saving screen.
 
I recently read somewhere online that the nostalgia-driven wave of late 2000's aesthetics revival, Windows XP wallpapers and Wii controllers was called Aero Frutiger. Some of the artists on this generous compilation, spanning over two 12", might have probably seen it too. The music on Vapordub is lush, soothing, non territorial, making hints at unidentified folklores and traditions, in the same vein as RAMZi's recordings, and it definitely express some of this nostalgia for a time when most of these artists did not have to worry about paying their rents, but to beat their siblings at Wii bowling instead. Some of the artists featured here are becoming familiar faces : Vica Pachenco, Naomie Klaus, A Strange Wedding, etc. ; other might just be some aliases for other recognizable names from the Bruxelles-South of France music axis.
 
There's something ominous in these Vapordub tunes, but not exactly menacing, in a way that reflects the neutral brutality of our times, I guess. Much like The Art Of Noise, in their times. Music to stay horizontal, water the plants, and wonder about our lives spent in an online mishmash.
