Sludge / Noise Rock / Experimental
Raw, noisy pyschedelic rock from 2008's NYC with some slow hypnotic jams and a Sunn O))) like distortion. If you enjoyed seeing / hearing Donna Candy or JS Donny last year, then enter the Sludge Zone once again with Vizusa.
You may have noticed that the overall sound in our musical spheres got grittier in recent years, echoing the grudge revolution that preceded my generation of late millennials / early gen-z. I grew up with a generously synth-driven music, referring the 1980's, and the noisiest music I had to experience as a teenager was Crystal Castles. Let's say that I've been musically raised during a 1980's revival period that lasted longer than the 1980's.
It seems we're finally seeing the end of the tunnel, only to emulate another decades for (the 1990's & 00's), but still, it feels refreshing. So, with new ears, attracted to new sound, I can venture into sound labyrinths made of fuzzy guitar & distorted voices, and that's what Vizusa had to offer in 2008. I'm particularly keen on the slow and long jams like High Frontier (that reminds me, in its own way, of an Okonkole Y Trompa classic by Elephant Chateau) or Fair Hesperides but came to enjoy the record as a whole. Even in its harsher moments, it embraces a minimal approach that gives the LP its unity. (VG+ / VG+)
